

Rose Dixon Butler, 76, of Clayton, North Carolina passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 13, 2017. She was born on October 21, 1941 in Johnston County to Carl Dixon and Lula Beatrice Dixon. She graduated from Clayton High in 1960 and was Salutatorian of her class and a letter winner on the girls' basketball team.
Rose met her husband, Eugene (Gene) F. Butler, Jr. while in high school and was married on April 1, 1961. They moved to Raleigh where Gene finished his degree at NC State University. Upon graduation, they moved to Smithfield, Rocky Mount, and Decatur, Georgia before moving back to Clayton in 1968.
After being a homemaker for many years, Rose bean a career at Cutter/Miles/Bayer Laboratories in Clayton where she started as a receptionist and retired as a Senior Buyer. She went on business trips to the West Coast, Midwest, Northeast and even Puerto Rico.
Rose was a kind person who enjoyed travel, flowers and nature. She was fair and loving and deeply cared for those to whom she was close: being a wife, mother and grandmother was the joy of her life.
Rose is survived by her husband, Gene, daughter Kelly Butler Duvall and husband, Joel, son Jon David Butler and wife Angela and her grandchildren Matt, Lydia, Rachel, Carla, Clara and Nathan. She was preceded in death by her parents and older brother, Carl Thomas Dixon. She is also survived by her brother John Dixon and sisters Jean Raper, Brenda Bailey and Cecelia Ellis.
A celebration of life service will be held at Horne Memorial United Methodist Church in Clayton, NC on Monday, October 16 at 4pm with reception immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Joy Club at Horne Memorial.
