

A celebration of her life will be conducted in the chapel at McLaurin Funeral Home on Monday, January 30, 2023 with interment at Pinecrest Memorial Park behind the funeral home. Reverend Jerry Waters officiating.
She was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Robert and Iyla Malcom where she lived until she met her beloved husband, Aubrey, who was active military for the United States Air Force stationed at Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha, Nebraska, just across the border of Iowa. After his assignment in a remote location in Alaska their first year of marriage, he returned and they moved to Alexandria, Virginia where he began his Civil Service Career with the US Department of the Army. Due to relocations relating to his career, their family also resided in Indianapolis, Indiana; Augusta, Georgia; Williamsburg, Virginia; and Stedman, North Carolina where Aubrey retired from Fort Bragg (Fayetteville). Sharon held various public service positions within their respective communities; however, her time was primarily devoted to sharing in her children’s activities, as well as those of her church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Iyla Malcom and a great-neice Kimberly Iyla Malcom.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Aubrey Legrand Whitlow, Sr., daughter, Kela Lockamy and husband Greg of Clayton, son, Aubrey “Legrand” Whitlow, Jr. and wife Bonita of Roanoke, Virginia and son, Myron “Craig” Whitlow of Stedman, North Carolina; sister-in-law, Beverly Malcom of Omaha, Nebraska and special aunt, Phyllis Haines, along with numerous cousins residing in Iowa. Grandchildren include: Casey Whitlow and wife Jeri of Stedman, North Carolina; Ryan Whitlow and wife Jacqueline of Weston, West Virginia; Erika Butler and husband Chris of Jacksonville, North Carolina; Andrea Nunez and husband Louis of Jacksonville, North Carolina; Nathan Whitlow and wife Kristen of Suffolk, Virginia; Amy Whitlow of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Eric Whitlow of Harrisonburg, Virginia. She was so proud of her family and cherished them all; especially her eleven great-grandchildren: DJ and Emily Whitlow, Evan Frazee, Johannah, Abigail and Micah Whitlow, Kristis and Kloe Butler, Carson and Sophia Nunez, and newly born Bennett Whitlow. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews that were very special to her.
