Dr. Thomas Edward Mouring

Thomas graduated from Southside High School as Class President in 1948. In addition to his leadership role, Thomas was also a star athlete on his high school’s varsity football team and track team. He went on to attend Howard University, where his ambition would continue. Thomas was not only an honor student, but he was admired by his classmates and friends. Thomas joined the forever brotherhood of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and would never let anyone forget he was “a strong Alpha man”! Dr. Thomas Mouring graduated from Howard University as a Doctor of Dental Surgery. He pursued his passion of dentistry in the United States Army for 4 years, in which he served in France. Following his stint in the Army, he started his own dental practice and continued his success in Irvington, New Jersey.

Thomas met the love of his life and soulmate, Marjorie, during his senior year of high school. After winning her over with his charm, the two were inseparable. After almost 4 years of dating, the high school sweethearts wed on September 14, 1952 in Newark, New Jersey. The couple lived in France while Thomas was in the Army and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the surrounding countries during that time. Thomas and Marjorie went on to start their family in Maplewood, New Jersey and had two beautiful children, Jason and Melanie. The Mouring’s took many vacations and enjoyed traveling as a family. Thomas and Marjorie moved to North Carolina in 2017 to be closer to some of their family. Thomas and Marjorie spent 67 wonderful years married to each other and enjoying life together.

Thomas was a social butterfly and could make friends with anyone! He enjoyed watching and playing tennis, going to horse races, and listening to jazz music. His favorite song was My Ship by Miles Davis. Although tennis was his favorite sport, Thomas loved watching his kids run track. He absolutely loved being outside on a hot, summer day and would frequent the beach (lathered in tanning oil). Out of all the things Thomas loved, he most enjoyed spending time joking and laughing with his family!

Thomas departed this life on September 29, 2019. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Marjorie Mouring; his son, Jason Mouring (wife, Jane Mouring); his daughter, Melanie Little (husband, Anthony Little); his 5 grandchildren, Brittany, Janae, Jake, Grace, and Gabrielle; and many other loved ones.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Jesse and Virginia Mouring; his siblings, Florence, Anna, and Jesse Mouring; and his nephew Gregory Wright.

Thomas was cherished, loved, and adored by many. He will forever remain in the hearts of all those that knew him.
