

CARY: Vicki Poole Sherwood, age 50, passed away on Friday, May 16, 2014 at Rex Hospital.
Memorial services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 21, 2014 in the chapel of McLaurin Funeral Home.
She was the daughter of the late Vernon Vick Poole and Judith Higgins Poole of Garner. Vicki graduated from Clayton High School in 1982; earned Associate Degree in Chemical Engineering Technology from Wake Technical College in August, 1984 and a BS degree in Business Administration from Mount Olive College in 2002.
She is survived by her husband and life-partner of 28 years, Ron Sherwood; two daughters, Natalie Michelle Sherwood and Bridget Renee Sherwood, ages 18 and 23 respectively; a brother, Brandon Poole of Charlotte, NC; brother-in-law, Rod Sherwood of Clayton, NC; several aunts and uncles and many other wonderful relatives and friends who brought happiness to her life.
She was a proud employee of DuPont Corporation for 28 years. She initially spent 8 ½ years in the Safety Office where she initiated the Site Hazard Communication program and wrote the Chemical Safety Manual. She then branched into industrial hygiene working with occupational health programs and worker’s comp. Most recently, she worked in the Product Stewardship area where she produced Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for chemicals in the Electronics Division, worked with regulations and customer issues. She achieved credentials
for a COHST (Certified Occupational Health and Safety Technologist) and CHMM (Certified Hazardous Materials Manager). She was also an AESF OSHA Chairperson and wrote several articles for their trade journal.
She loved reading and writing, and had produced an outline plus written a prologue for a promising book about her breast cancer journey to be titled “A Good Little Rain”. Over the past two years while undergoing her journey, she took pride in helping the Cary High School Lady Imps basketball team initiate and continue their Play 4Kay fund raiser.
Flowers will be accepted or charitable contributions in her memory may be made to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund or the charity of one’s choice.
The family would like to thank everyone for their loving support, thoughts and prayers, the breadth of which amazed and comforted her during her valiant struggle.
