Dr. Fred Shoff Read

Dr. Fred Shoff Read, 69, of Curwensville, (Marron) beloved husband to Susan K. (Swan) Read, loving father to Brian M. Read and Shari L. (Roger) Solberg, cherished grandfather to Erin Elizabeth Solberg, passed into his Heavenly Home Thursday, November 6, 2014 at his home.

Fred was born to the late Seth and Dorothy Shoff Read on November 14, 1944.

He graduated from Curwensville Area High School, received a BA degree in Biology and Chemistry from John Brown University, Siloam Springs, Arkansas and his Medical Technology degree from the University of Arkansas. His dental education was at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and upon completion, served as a dental officer in the United States Navy at Great Lakes, Illinois. He practiced general dentistry in Curwensville for 37 years and in the State dental system for 2 ½ years.

Dr. Read is survived by his wife Susan of 42 years, son Brian of Hollidaysburg and daughter Shari (Roger) and granddaughter, Erin, all of Malta, Montana and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George and Julia (McCracken) Read and maternal grandparents, Harry and Ruby (Rowles) Shoff.

Family and friends will be received at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home Inc., of Clearfield from 2 to 5 PM on Sunday, November 9, 2014 and on Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Zion Baptist Church, Ansonville from 10 until the hour of services at 11:00 AM with Rev. Richard Engle, Jr. officiating. Interment will be at Watts Cemetery, RD, Curwensville, PA (Greenwood Twp.). Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Clearfield Honor Guard.
