Gloria E. Uldrich (Cusick), 89, Hot Springs, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on December 16, 2021 at the home of her daughter in State College, Pennsylvania. Born on May 16, 1932 in Hot Springs, she was the daughter of George O. Cusick and Cleo C. (Lovston) Cusick. Preceded in death by her parents; her brother, George Owen Cusick; her nephew, Mark Cusick; and her infant grandson, Dustin Mari. She is survived by her children: Nancy (David) Williams of State College, Sharon Uldrich of Hot Springs, and Gregory (Betsy) Uldrich of Hot Springs Village; and grandchildren: Dalton Williams, Caitlin (Kris) West (Mari), Connor Williams, Arley Uldrich, Elli Uldrich, Abi Uldrich, Tabitha Uldrich, and Hannah Uldrich.
Gloria grew up in Hot Springs and had fond memories as a young girl of living behind her father's shoe repair shop. She was a lifetime member of Park Place Baptist Church although much of her life she was unable to attend there. She graduated in 1950 from Hot Spring High School and went to work at the Little Rock Veterans Administration Hospital in Little Rock where she received her nursing certificate. Later, she graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Education. She spent just over four years serving in the US Army Reserve and on August 21, 1961 while serving in the 916th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital, she was promoted from First Lieutenant to Captain. She went active-duty October 1, 1961 and joined the US Army Nurses Corps. She married Evert D. Uldrich, a First Lieutenant in the US Army Medical Service Corps on August 8, 1964 at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. She received an honorable discharge December 21, 1964 and they started a family.
They lived in Allentown, Pennsylvania and Lawrence, Kansas prior to settling in Idaho and raising their family in Ammon, Moscow, and Idaho Falls. She was a skilled Registered Nurse that taught nursing classes, and worked in the operating room, and in the recovery room. In addition to nursing, she served as a Girl Scout Troop Leader and several years as the Cookie Chairman. She was also very active in and supportive of the Idaho Falls Ski Training Facility, serving as part of the phone call tree, as the carpool coordinator, and spending many years as either a gatekeeper or as a timer at ski races. She was a member of the Back Country Horsemen and the family attended Trinity United Methodist Church. She and Evert divorced just short of 30 years of marriage, and she retired in 1995 from Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. She then moved “back home” to Hot Springs and served as a Companion Coordinator with the Senior Companion Program of Garland County. She received The President’s Call To Service Award and retired from her second career on November 6, 1998. She never met a stranger, only a friend she hadn’t made yet. She served her family, her friends, her patients, her employers, and her Lord well.
Please join family and friends Saturday, March 5th at 10AM in Little Rock, for a graveside service at Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery; and/or at 12 Noon in Hot Springs, for a celebration of life service at Park Place Baptist.
