Harold R. Owens

Mr. Owens was born March 19, 1947 in Clearfield, the son of Chester H. and Daisy E. (Lingle) Owens.

Harold, better known as “Red” by his crew, retired after twenty years of service with ANH Refractories, serving ten years with Harbison-Walker and ten years with North American Refractories as a shift supervisor.

He served three years of active duty with the United States Army, which included eighteen months of service with the 4th Infantry Division in the Central Highlands of Vietnam. There he received the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service. He also served an additional fifteen years with the Army Reserves and the Pennsylvania National Guard.

Harold was also a member of the American Legion Post #6 of Clearfield.

He was Christian by faith.

Mr. Owens is survived by his wife A. Christine (English) Owens, whom he married on February 26, 1966; two children, Kevin Owens and his wife Rhonda and Kelly McCracken and her husband Mark, all of Clearfield; five grandchildren, Megan Owens, Zach Owens, Madison Owens, Nathan Owens and Amanda McCracken. Also surviving is a number of nieces and nephews. He was the last member of his generation.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother, James Owens and Russell English, whom he, along with his wife, raised.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 10, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Kenneth Pry officiating. Interment will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde.

Friends will be received at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM and on Monday from 12:00 Noon until the time of services.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the Clearfield Honor Guard.
