J. Carl Wighaman

Born February 21, 1935, in Tyrone, the son of Robert D. and Bertha Mae (Miller) Wighaman.

He was a graduate of Clearfield High School, Class of 1954 and was co-chairman of the class reunion committee for 55 years.

After graduation he entered the United States Navy and served for 4 years during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Wighaman retired from Blue Cross of Western Pennsylvania after 27 years of service.

Carl was a member of Clearfield JC’s, Lions Club and BPOE Lodge #540 serving as Exalted Ruler from 1987 to 1988.

He enjoyed spending time at his daughter and son-in-law’s camp, always having a story to tell and had a love of trains, which he started at an early age with his father and brothers.

Carl is survived by his daughter, Barbara Lou Ann Shiner and her husband William A. of Clearfield, two grandchildren: Rebecca Elizabeth Lumpp and her husband Steve and Matthew Carl Shiner and his wife Jenna all of Pittsburgh, 2 grandchildren: Brooks William Lumpp and Maren James Lumpp, a sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Wighaman and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary V. (Walker) Wighaman whom he married December 28, 1957 and who passed away October 5, 2020, three brothers: Robert D. Wighaman, Jr., William E. “Wiggy” Wighaman and Paul M. Wighaman and his wife Jean and a sister, Marjorie Roussey.

Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Clearfield on Monday, April 27, 2026, at 10:00 AM with Father Robert Horgas as celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Clearfield Honor Guard.

Friends will be received at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc., Clearfield on Sunday, April 26, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. The BPOE Lodge #540 will conduct a service at 5:45 PM.
