

He was born on September 17, 1927, in Woodland, PA, the son of Richard Karchner, Sr. and Ethel (Shirey) Karchner.
Jack retired from the United State Postal Service as Postmaster of the Woodland Post Office after 30 years of service. Also, he and his wife Elaine, owned and operated the former Woodland IGA for many years.
He was a 1945 graduate of Clearfield High School. Jack went on to become a veteran of the United States Army, having served in both World War II and the Korean War.
Jack was very involved in his community. He was a member of the Woodland Lions Club, the BJW Fire Company in Woodland, the Bradford Cemetery Board and the Clearfield American Legion. Most recently he served as a volunteer for the Woodland Park, where he maintained the park grounds and ball park.
Jack was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing.
He was a member of the Hyde Wesleyan Church. Jack was also a member of the Lake Street Singers Trio, where he sang with Wally Mains and John Schenk.
Jack is survived by his wife of sixty four years, Elaine (Roberts) Karchner, to whom he married on June 19, 1948 in Bellwood, PA at the EUB Church, by Rev. George Smith; two sons and a daughter, Dennis L. Karchner and his wife Leigh T. of Cody, WY, Michael A. Karchner and his wife Patricia of Woodland and Lou Ann (Karchner) Tylwalk and her husband Charles of Clearfield; grandchildren: Lindsay (Karchner) Michael, Hillary (Karchner) Wilson, Dillon Karchner, Ryan Karchner, Curtis Karchner, Zachary Tylwalk and Zane Tylwalk; great-grandchildren, Jack Wilson and Sheydra Tylwalk. He is also survived by a brother, Richard Karchner, Jr. of Woodland and a sister, Elaine (Karchner) Greene of Nazareth, PA and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James Karchner and Dennis Karchner and a sister, LaRue Karchner.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2012 at noon at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. John Croft and Rev. Robert Croft co-officiating. Interment will follow in the Bradford Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Friday, July 27, 2012 from 7:00-9:00 PM and on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the hour of service.
Graveside military honors will be provided by members of the Honor Guard.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Hyde Wesleyan Church, 1215 Riverview Road, Hyde, PA.
