

Born October 24, 1931 in Clearfield, he was the son of the late James L. and Levina M. (Kennedy) Flanagan.
Mr. Flanagan was a graduate of Clearfield High School of 1949. He was employed with the Iron Workers Local #3, Pittsburgh from 1955 – 1996 when he retired.
John was a veteran of the US Navy having served during the Korean Conflict aboard the Olmstead ship 188.
Mr. Flanagan was a member of St. Francis Roman Catholic Church, Clearfield and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Clearfield VFW, Clearfield American Legion, Clearfield BPOE and the Chinklacamoose Canoe Club.
Surviving is his wife: Carolyn J. (Smay) Flanagan whom he married July 27, 1957 at St. Francis Roman Catholic Church, Clearfield; 4 daughters and a son: Maureen Johnston and her husband Daniel, Morrisdale; Linda Newpher and her husband Robert, Curwensville; James Flanagan and his wife JoAnn, Curwensville; Joyce Ott and her husband Alan, Curwensville; and Michelle Strickland and her husband H. Richard, Clearfield; 13 grandchildren: Adrianne Robinson and her husband Garret, Matthew Johnston and his wife Julie, Melissa Newpher and her fiance’ Bryan Edwards, Kristi Scatko and her husband Mike, Carrie Flanagan, Samantha Palmer and fiance’ Michael Aughenbaugh, Cory Palmer, Leslie Palmer, Joey Palmer, Jocelyn Ott, Jilyn Ott, Savannah Strickland and Ciara Strickland; 4 great grandchildren: Ethan and Parker Robinson, Hunter and Arianna Aughenbaugh; 4 sisters: Carol Anderson and husband Joel, Bainebridge, WA; Margaret Bell, Clearfield; Pat Rumfola and husband Jack, Clearfield; Joan Domico and her husband Patrick, Curwensville; sister-in-law: Margie Hertlein, Karthaus and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Rosemary Hoy; 4 brothers: James, Leon, Sheridan”Bud” and Terrill Flanagan.
Honoring Mr. Flanagan’s wishes, there will be no public viewing. A Memorial Mass will be said at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at St. Francis Roman Catholic Church, Clearfield with Father John L. Miller III as celebrant. Military Honors will be accorded at the church by the Clearfield Honor Guard.
Friends will be received at the church from 9:00 AM until the hour of the Mass.
