
She was born January 1, 1922 in Clearfield, PA. She was the daughter of Veda McLaughlin Krebs Shaffer and Henry A. Krebs both deceased.
Margaret lived in Clearfield, PA all her life, attending Third Ward School, Junior High School and graduated from Clearfield High School in the class of 1939.
Her first job was at McCrorys 5&10, working there for 10 years at a weekly salary of $9.00. She left there to take a job at Penn Furniture Co. as head office personnel, she retired from there December 24, 1971.
January 15, 1972 she went to work at the Clearfield County Court House, in the Prothonotary Office as the Deputy Clerk of Courts, a job she held for 15 years, working for four Prothonotaries, Archie Hill, Raymond Witherow, Allen Beitz and Bill Shaw, also for three Judges; Judge John A. Cherry, Judge John K. Reilly and Judge Joseph Ammerman.
Marge loved to dance and she belonged to many clubs as a social member. Clearfield American Legion Post #6, Clearfield Eagles Club #812, Clearfield VFW Post #1785, Clearfield Moose Club #97 and Clearfield S.O.I. Club #189.
She was a former member of the Swedish American Club in DuBois, Also past member of the Junior Womens Club and the N.O.N. Club in Clearfield.
Margaret married Arthur T. Smith December 25, 1947 at Indiana, PA. They were remarried at St. Francis Church in Clearfield, PA June 19, 1981 by Father F. Desmond McGee, Jr.
She is survived by two sisters, Patricia L. Shaffer, Vanport, PA and Mary E. Covalt, Rochester, PA and many nieces and nephews.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur T. Smith on February 18, 1988. She was also preceded in death by her parents Veda A. McLaughlin Krebs Shaffer (Mother), Henry A. Krebs (Father) and her Step-Father, Harold Clair Shaffer, two brothers; Henry A. Krebs and James H. Shaffer and one sister Nannette Jane Hatt.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at St. Francis Catholic Church of Clearfield on Monday, July 30, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. with Father Brandon Kleckner as celebrant. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery in Clearfield, PA.
Friends will be received at the Bennett and Houser Funeral Home, Inc. of Clearfield on Monday, July 30, 2012 from 9:00 to 9:45 AM.
