

He was born in Buffalo, NY, the son of Benjamin and Lyda Scott.
He joined the Navy in May 1944 and served as a surface warfare officer for nearly 32 years, spanning World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam Conflict. His service was highlighted by tours as Commanding Officer, USS Lorikett (AMS 49) and USS Richard E. Kraus (DD 849), Commander, Naval Officer Training Center, Newport, and Chief of Naval Education and Training Support. During his career, he was awarded the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star (with Combat V), Navy Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Navy Occupation Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Republic of Vietnam Honor Medal 1st Class. Following military retirement, he completed his doctorate and served as Assistant Director of the Florida State University Higher Education Center until 1990.
CAPT Scott was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, patriot and friend who will be deeply missed. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Margaret Bliven Scott. He is survived by two children; Margaret and her husband Raymond Pruss and Benjamin Scott and his wife Patricia Shustock, grandchildren; Kathryn Pruss Zeltwanger and her husband Andrew, Andrew Pruss and his wife Amanda and LT Alexander Scott, USN and great grandchildren; Stella and Jovie Pruss and Archer Zeltwanger.
A private memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Erie, PA with final internment in the Cathedral columbarium with his wife Margaret.
