

Bettie Lee Mease, age 88, died September 19, 2013. She was born at Morton Plant Hospital on September 30, 1924, the daughter of the late Dr. Walter Evan Lee and the late Ruth Wilks Lee Pinckney. She was also the stepdaughter of the late Arthur T. Pinckney. She was a 1941 graduate of Clearwater High and received her B.S. from the University of Alabama in 1945. She was married to V. Earl Mease for 53 years until his death in 2005.
Bettie was extremely active in the community for all her life. She was a former president of Skipperettes, a member of the Clearwater YWCA Board of Directors (as was her mother before her) and a volunteer at the YWCA consignment shop for 23 years. She helped start and was a volunteer at the Morton Plant Hospital resale shop for more than 25 years. She was active in several areas at Religious Community Services and also helped them open their thrift shop. She was a member of the Largo Cracker Quilters since 1981 and a former president. She was a member of the Caledesi Chapter of Questors International and a former president. She was a life member of the Clearwater Historical Society and was a fixture at the fish fries where she sold tickets and greeted. She was also a member of the Pinellas Historical Society, Pinellas Pioneers, a volunteer at Heritage Village since 1991 and a former member of the Casado Club. She was a lifelong member of Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church. She received a Pinellas County Lifetime Service Award in 2012.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan L. Mease (Joseph Long) of West Chester, PA and Sally M. Shields (Mark) of Mt. Pleasant, SC. She is also survived by her grandsons, Kirk Mease Shields and Parker Lee Shields.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013 at Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church with a reception following in Roebling Hall. A private Interment will be held at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park in Clearwater. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Moss Feaster Funeral Home of Clearwater.
