Born on April 3, 1929, in Lancaster, New York, Betty was the cherished daughter of the late Ida (née Roll) and William F. Wadel. In 1971, she moved with her family from New York to Florida, where she would spend the rest of her life surrounded by sunshine and those she loved most.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. A woman of quiet strength and great talent, she worked as a skilled seamstress in the maritime industry and lovingly crafted beautiful garments for her children. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life—playing bingo and cards, knitting gifts for family and friends, and spending time with her church community.
She was a faithful and active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Clearwater, where she served with devotion as part of the Dorcas Society and Card Ministry. Her deep faith, warm heart, and kind spirit touched all who knew her.
Betty is survived by her beloved children: Nancy (Dan) Echols, Patricia Barreto, William (Ji) Daege, and Karen (Joel) Gray; her cherished grandchildren: Eric (Erica Eis) Barreto, Adam (Jennifer) Barreto: and her adored great-grandchildren: Sarah Barreto and Maximillian Barreto. She is also remembered fondly by many extended family members and friends whose lives were enriched by her presence.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Donald Daege and her son-in-law Jose Barreto.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Grace Lutheran Church, 1812 N. Highland Avenue, Clearwater, Florida 33755.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Grace Lutheran Church (Graceclw.com) or to your favorite charity.
