Carol Mary (Reis) Dunn, was born in New York City on March 5, 1935. At age 88, after a fulfilling and active life, she passed away peacefully at her home in Clearwater, Florida on Sunday May 7, 2023.
She is predeceased by her husband, James William Dunn and her son, Alan Dunn. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Murray, grandchildren, Tyler and Tori Murray, sister Susan, and brother Malcolm, as well as beloved nephews, nieces, family, and dear friends.
Carol moved to Florida in 1961. Once here, she resumed her teaching career and taught for over 3 decades. She enjoyed working with many wonderful students and has maintained connections with some of them for years. She retired into a life of service. She was involved and very active at St. Paul’s Lutheran church (where she had recently completed the Diakonia program), Habitat for Humanity, the AIDs Coalition, Reconciling Works, and more. She was a weekly volunteer with the children at the schools where her daughter taught, sponsored multiple children and families around the globe, and was a proud active ally of the LGBTQIA+ community.
In addition to her many volunteer commitments, she enjoyed music, traveling, literature, and learning. Carol enjoyed time spent with others, providing support and encouragement to all who needed it. She will be remembered for all the love and compassion she has shared with so many diverse people throughout her life. Her loved ones and all who she has touched will keep her spirit alive through service to others.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of the organizations she served with her heart, her time, and her treasure.
