

He was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 9, 1945 to the late Michael Leo & Anne Angela (Donnelly) Devenney, their second of six children.
Charley enlisted in the Army, and attained the role of Armor Intel Specialist 4. He was Honorably Discharged, having earned the National Defense Service Medal.
He then worked for Con Edison in New York, retiring in the year 2000, finishing as the Shop Steward for his Union.
He went on to become the Commander of American Legion Post 238 in Safety Harbor, Florida from 2015-2017.
In his free time, Charley enjoyed fishing, pitching softball, and rooting for all his New York teams: the Mets, the Giants, and the Rangers.
He was predeceased by his father-in-law, George Large, and his mother-in-law, Rita King Large.
Charley is survived by his loving wife, Janet Large, married in October of 1973; beloved daughter, Kellie Devenney; siblings, Michael Devenney, Irma Kelly, Dennis Devenney, Nora Bishop, and Mary Waka; his Uncle Joseph Donnelly; and, his nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as his loving in-laws.
He finished his life strong in his family’s arms.
Join us at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home in Clearwater, Florida for a visitation on Sunday, April 19 from 7-9pm, where we will have a toast to Charley around 8pm. The following day, on Monday, April 20th, we will have a Mass at Espiritu Santo Catholic Church in Safety Harbor, Florida. There will be a short break before you are all invited to join us for Charley's inurnment service with Honors at Bay Pines National Cemetery at 2:30pm.
