Chris was born on December 18, 1971, in Rockville, Maryland, to his late parents, William Golden Hoban and Mary Michelle Brady. In 1982, he moved with his family to Safety Harbor, Florida, where he grew up.
Chris lived by his four “F” rules: family, friends, football, and of course, food. He was devoted to his wife, his family, and was a steadfast friend bringing light, laughter, and an abundance of love to everyone around him.
His love of football began in childhood and remained a lifelong passion. Over the years, he coached youth football with the Countryside Junior Cougars, spent more than 20 years coaching at Countryside High School, and coached with the Dunedin Junior Falcons for four years. Chris was also a beloved and dedicated official, refereeing for the Sunshine Football Association as well as many local youth tackle and adult football and youth basketball programs and leagues.
Chris devoted more than 35 years of service to the City of Dunedin. His passion for serving others and commitment to the community never wavered. He became a leader and mentor to generations of families and youth through his athletic and camp programs. He was a founder of the North Pinellas Track Program, contributing 25 years of dedication to helping young athletes grow and succeed. Most recently, he served as the proud manager of the Stirling Driving Range, where he played an integral role in the facility’s tremendous success.
Above all, Chris will be remembered for the impact he had on the people around him. As one close friend shared, Chris would want his family, friends, and the community he touched to “keep going, keep giving, and keep showing up.”
Chris is survived by his wife of nearly fifteen years, Emily Hoban; his beloved sisters, Katie Suhoza (Eric) and Colleen King (Steve); his nieces and nephews, Caleigh and Kyle King, Christopher, Molly, Eric, and Sean Suhoza, and Ethan Wilson and Willa Ewoldt; his sister-in-law, Sarah Brittingham; and his brother-in-law, Max Ewoldt (Jade). He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless dear friends who were like family.
A foundation will be established in the coming weeks to honor his legacy and continue supporting the youth in our community. In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask that you consider making a donation to support this cause.
A public community celebration will be hosted by the City of Dunedin’s Parks & Recreation Department where the community can say farewell and pay their final respects – information will be forthcoming.
