Clyde was born on January 12, 1931 in Bayonne, NJ to Clyde and Dorothy LeFever. He was the oldest of three children, including Kenneth and Joyce.
Clyde was known for telling great stories about some of the memorable experiences of his life. Whether this was how he mastered the game of checkers, or the tales of his many adventures in growing up in New York, serving in the Air Force in Alaska, or working with a great team at Eastern Airlines. However the favorite story he often told was how he met the love of his life, Mary, when she was working at a bank in New York. He knew right away that she was the one for him and he spent the rest of his life telling everyone how special his Mary was.
Clyde and Mary were married on June 7, 1958. Together they raised three children: Sharon Priebe, Debbie (Jim) Devin, and Clyde (Jen) LeFever. They were incredibly proud of their three grandchildren: Kayla Devin, Alese Devin, and Curb LeFever.
Clyde was an airman in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was stationed in Alaska during his time in the service. After leaving the military, Clyde had started his career at Eastern Airlines at JFK Airport in New York. He took the opportunity to leave the cold winters behind and they moved the family to Clearwater, Florida. He remained active in the Eastern Airlines community throughout his life, enjoying their regular picnics and get togethers even after his retirement.
Clyde had many hobbies including: making belts and wallets with leather, bowling, and puzzles of all kinds. He became well known amongst the other residents at the Grand Villa for his ability to both start and finish a jigsaw puzzle.
During their 64 years of marriage, Clyde and Mary went on many great adventures together. They traveled back to Ireland many times to spend time with Mary’s family. They enjoyed going on cruises throughout the Caribbean, and even one down the Mississippi River. Later, they discovered Stowe, Vermont and were able to visit several times. Whether they were traveling to new places or simply enjoying a muffin together in their recliners, as long as they were together, they were happy.
While his family is sad to lose him, they are happy knowing that Clyde and Mary are together again.
Services will be Monday, August 11th at 1:00 pm at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home followed immediately by a graveside service for immediate family.
