Don was born August 3, 1947 to Donald S. Himes Sr., and Aliene Goodhart Himes in Washington DC at the military hospital. His father was a Colonel in the Army so Don lived in many different cities, including Tokyo, and Paris. He passed away on April 26,2025 from pancreatic cancer which was discovered late, leaving little time for treatment.
He went to HighSchool in New Jersey, then on to the University of Hawaii where he graduated with a Degree in Business. While in college he learned to surf and sail and developed a love for the sea. After
graduation he joined the Air Force and was stationed in Arizona. He then moved to Kansas City and entered the insurance industry. He worked for several national brokers in sales, management, and
corporate insurance.
While in Kansas City he met and married his true love Terri on May 29, 1982. He was a wonderful stepfather to his daughter Amy Pikulski. One of his favorite memories was when she asked him if she could call him DAD. He was very proud of his grandsons Nathaniel Himes and Noah Pikulski and loved helping them with sports, education, and numerous vacations.
Sailing was his life's passion, and his most recent boat was named "Time2Cruise", as when he retired he could spend more time on the water. He was active with the Hudson Beach Yacht Club.
Don had many friends, and was a shining light in the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing him. His passing left a void in the hearts of his family, friends and those whose lives he touched. His journey on this earth was marked by love, compassion, and faith in God. Many very early Friday mornings he would join his faith group friends for breakfast and prayer.
Don is survived by his wife Terri Himes, his grandsons Nathaniel Himes and Noah Pikulski.
A gathering of family and friends for Donald will be held Thursday, May 29, 2025 from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 SUNSET POINT RD, CLEARWATER, FL 33759 with a memorial service will be held from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM.
