Dorcas Wedgeworth Hancock, age 83, died on January 20, 2013. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2013, at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Clearwater, FL.
The officiating ministers will be the church’s pastor, Rev. Dr. Dennis Reid; also, Rev. Dr. James Lamkin.
Dorcas W. Hancock was born on January 28, 1929. She was the younger of two daughters born to Oliver C. and Willie Wedgeworth.
She was a graduate of Arcadia High School in Arcadia, LA; and earned a BS degree in mathematics from Louisiana Tech University. She was married to Rae Paul Hancock from 1949 until he died in 2002.
She loved teaching math to students at Clearwater High School and leading Bible study classes at her church. In addition to her interest in math, she was a musician who enjoyed playing the piano and the organ.
It may “take a village to rear a child,” but it also took a village to tend to Dorcas during these past ten years without Paul. That village of care consisted of her beloved Trinity Presbyterian Church, neighbors, friends, and family for whom she cared deeply. This “community of caring” will always remember her sharp mind, quick wit, and deep faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rae Paul Hancock and her sister, Mildred Wedgeworth Lamkin.
She is survived by her nephews, James E. Lamkin, Don Bennett, and Rick Duchesne; her nieces, Virginia Lamkin Walker, Joy Bennett Cuervo, Ann Bennett Wilks, Kay Bennett McGuire, Janna Hancock Tipton, Rae Brantley, and Aimee Barr; and her sisters-in-law, Edith Hancock Bennett and Linda Hancock Duchesne; plus, all of their extended families.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Trinity Presbyterian Church of Clearwater, Florida. www.mossfeasterclearwater.com
