She worked as a secretary in the insurance industry in Missouri and then for State Farm in Florida. She was secretary at First Reformed Church in Tampa for many years where she was a member. She was employed by the Jim Walter Corporation in Tampa as a benefits coordinator until her retirement.
Beyond employment, Doris was a caregiver to her husband for a lengthy duration.
Sewing her favorite culotte dresses and clothes for her daughters kept that Singer sewing machine active! She made many plastic canvas stitched Christmas items we will continue to treasure. Reading every Stuart Woods novel (sometimes for the second time) was her passion until vision failed. Circle-a-word books were completed regularly.
Lovingly, called Mimi, she was actively involved in her grandson’s life after birth until they moved; she looked forward to his visits and was glad when they moved back to Florida so she could spend more time with him. Moving from Tampa to Clearwater, enabled her to pick up her granddaughters from school, treat them to 7-11 Slurpees, and frequently babysit.
At Northwood Presbyterian Church in Clearwater, she helped assemble Sunday's church bulletin and prepared the sanctuary for Sunday's service. Fall and Easter church dinners were enjoyed on site and continued as takeout meals as her mobility declined. She was fond of monthly fellowship learning about other members travels, then lunch afterwards. Church concerts at Easter, Christmas, and with guest composers were adored.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Hoffman; her sister Irma (Dieterich) Borgmann and niece Donna Borgmann. She is survived by daughter Carolyn (Steve) Rickrode; daughter Jacqui Hoffman; grandchildren Mike (Jennifer) Hiltz, Stephanie (Dakota) McLean and Christy Rickrode; great-grandchildren Charleigh Hiltz, Mackenzie Hiltz, and Kirin Hiltz; niece Karen Bantle and many nieces/nephews on the Hoffman side.
