Dorothy E. Gutz

Dorothy was born in 1924 in St Paul, Minnesota. Her mother, Catherine died when Dorothy was 10 and she took over much of the household chores and cooking. She went to Holy Spirit Catholic grade school and St Paul Central High School. As a teenager her first job was at Locker Drug as a "soda jerk" and then worked at the Northern Pacific Railway as a office girl / clerk. She married Kenneth H. Gutz in 1951. In 1953 they had their first child and she became a full-time homemaker. She had 2 more children in the 1950's, Jerry and Nancy. In 1957 the family moved to Clearwater, Florida because Ken was transferred to the Honeywell Aerospace division in St Petersburg, Florida. Karen was born in 1963 and the family was complete. Dorothy loved taking the kids to the beach or a local pool in the summer and especially loved escaping the cold and snowy Minnesota winters. Her hobbies were sewing beautiful clothing and volunteering at church, hospitals and her children's schools. She was very kindhearted and helpful to various elderly neighbors over the years. She was a member of St Cecelia Catholic Church and later Light of Christ Catholic Church. When Ken retired in 1980 they walked daily in the various Pinellas County Parks and enjoyed traveling the US. In 2001 the family celebrated Dorothy and Ken's 50th wedding anniversary. By the time Ken passed away in 2010 they had been married nearly 60 years.

She had a kind and giving spirit and was always willing to help others. She wIll be dearly missed by her 4 children, Linda (Kevin), Jerry (Lisa), Nancy (Tim) and Karen (Dean), 3 grandchildren, David, Barbara (Ben), Lorinne (Aaron) and 4 great grandchildren, Claire, Molly, Brooklyn and Brenden.

And preceded in death by her husband, Ken and her grandson, Christopher.

Dorothy E. Gutz, age 94, of Largo, Florida passed away on Tuesday May 21, 2019. Dorothy was born October 17, 1924 in St. Paul, Minnesota.

A visitation for Dorothy will be held Sunday, May 26, 2019 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Rd., Clearwater, Florida 33759. A funeral service will occur Sunday, May 26, 2019 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, 2853 Sunset Point Rd., Clearwater, Florida 33759. A committal service will occur Sunday, May 26, 2019 from 3:00 PM to 3:15 PM at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2860 Sunset Point Rd., Clearwater, Florida 33759. A burial will occur.
