
Ross, Douglas Rowland Sr. 95, of Clearwater, passed away Feb. 6, 2015. Douglas was born in Brightwaters, NY and graduated from Wesleyan University in Middleton, CT. Douglas joined the Marines and was sent to Clearwater in 1942 to train with the 3rd Amphibious Tractor Battalion, 3rd Marine Division, where he met his loving wife of 65 years, Betsy. He was awarded the Bronze Star for valor in the battle for the Pacific Island of Guam and participated in battles for Iwo Jima, Guam and Bouganville, along with many others. He worked for Fortune Federal in Clearwater for many years and was an active member of The Rotary Club, Casado Club and The Carlouel Yacht Club. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clearwater. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betsy. Survivors include sons, Doug (Karlene) Ross Jr., Craig (Michele) Ross; daughter, Lisa (Tom) Shook; grandchildren Tammy, Courtney, Allison and Lauren; great-granddaughters, Kate and Kamryn; and a host of wonderful friends. He was a wonderful husband, dad and friend to many and will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517 Topeka, Kansas 66675. Graveside service held on Monday, Feb 9th at 11:30AM at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park.
