George "Chip" Collins

Chip passed away on Monday, September 20, 2010. He is survived by wife, Mary Jane, daughters Carolyn Miller and Cathy Hart, son-in-law Bill Hart,a brother, E. James Collins, 3 grandchildren, Shannon Rivers, Ryan Miller, and David Hart, and 1 great grandchild, Bailey Rivers.

Chip has been a member of the Clearwater community for over 65 years. He is a graduate of Clearwater High School and received his BA from the University of Florida. He spent over 20 years in the local news business with most of his career spent at WTVT Channel 13 where he was a reporter and news assignment editor. Chip then had careers as a local realtor, a church administrator at Heritage United Methodist Church, and most recently as a security officer for CIS. Chip loved singing in the church choir and spent a number of years as a volunteer police officer for the City of Clearwater. But his favorite pastime was traveling in his RV with his wife and doggies, Pretty and SweetPea. Visitation will be Thursday at the funeral home, 693 S. Belcher Rd, Clearwater, 6PM-8PM and the services will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Clearwater, 411 Turner St., on Friday, September 24, 2010 at 1:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Clearwater Music Ministry.
