She was born on December 25, 1944, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, to the late Elsie and Willard Bollinger. Gladys spent many years working alongside her husband in the business, Hilkert Custom Builders and Apartments, where her dedication and strong work ethic were deeply valued.
Gladys was known for a fun, loving spirit that could light up any room. Her infectious laugh was unmistakable—a sound that brought joy, comfort, and togetherness to everyone around her. She had a gift for making people feel welcomed and loved. Playing card games were a cherished daily ritual, filling her heart with abundant happiness. Each day, she found comfort and strength in listening to her audio Bible and enjoyed keeping up with current events by watching Fox News. Above all, Gladys was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother as she was the heart of our family.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 63 years, Larry Lee Hilkert; her children, Douglas L. (Tanya) Hilkert and Cynthia Kistner; her brother, David (Dolores) Bollinger; her grandchildren, Alexander L. Hilkert, Douglas Luke Hilkert, and Jacquelyn (Robert) Schuette; her great-grandchildren, Oliver Schuette and Madelyn Schuette; her brothers-in-law, Lewis (Gail) Hilkert, Paul (Louise) Hilkert, and William Hilkert; along with many extended family members and dear friends.
In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her brothers, Kenneth Bollinger, Robert Bollinger, and George Bollinger.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at Sylvan Abbey Funeral Home, 2853 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater, Florida 33759. The family will begin receiving guests at 9:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hope Children’s Home.
