

Harlan was born at Gorgas Hospital, Panama Canal Zone on September 9, 1970. He was the first born son of Walter and Jane Crouch. He has four brothers Guthrie, Walter, Chad and Olin. They grew up in the Panama Canal Zone. Harlan attended Canal Zone schools in Gamboa and Balboa. After high school, he spent several years at sea on a tugboat. Later he attended Panama Canal College. He was honored to receive a congressional appointment to Kings Point Merchant Marine Academy from which he graduated in 1996. After graduating, he spent several years at sea. Then, he started his business Cocobolo Inc., importing and selling exotic tropical hardwoods. He loved growing things, especially exotic plants. He was a master craftsman, having won several blue ribbons at the state fair for his beautifully turned bowls and vases made of the lovely Panamanian hardwoods.
On December 14, 2012, he wed the love of his life Caroline Hinkle. They lived in Safety Harbor, Florida and Panama. He resumed his career as a Merchant Marine Officer and unfortunately passed away on the job in a tragic accident onboard ship while in the Middle East. He left behind his loving wife Caroline, who is expecting their baby boy Harlan P. Crouch III.
He is also survived by his large extended family and a multitude of lifelong friends. He will always be remembered as philosopher, full of wisdom, kind and gentle patriot, artist, and full of life. He will never be forgotten.
