Irene P. Gibson, 89, of Spring Hill, Florida went to be with her Lord on Monday, July 12, 2021, at Suncoast Hospice Care Center in Palm Harbor, Florida following a short illness. Irene was born November 6, 1931 in Middletown, Connecticut, to Giuseppe and Filomena Pattavina. Irene was part of a large loving family of seven brothers and sisters. She met the love of her life, Francis J. Gibson, while they were working at JCPenney in Middletown, where Fran was a management trainee. They were married on September 7, 1953 in Middletown. Fran’s career took them to many cities around the country including Springfield, Massachusetts; Hamden, Connecticut; Madison, Appleton and Brown Deer, Wisconsin; and Port Huron, Michigan. When they retired in 1990, they moved to a house in Timber Pines located in Spring Hill, where they enjoyed many wonderful family gatherings.
Irene was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. She lovingly cared for her children and prayerfully guided them along the way. She loved all of her relatives, and showed great love for her brothers and sisters, children, and grandchildren. Her three daughters-in-law all agree she was the “best mother-in-law ever!”. Above all Irene loved her Lord Jesus, and served him through leadership and teaching during a long association with the Women’s Aglow International chapter in Spring Hill. Irene had spunk and determination, but she lived her life with a quiet grace, along with a strong dose of passion as well.
Irene will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her sons Kevin (Martha) of Rochester, Minnesota; Mark (Sue) of Andover, Minnesota; Kenneth (Dee Dee) of Clearwater, Florida; and her daughter Karen Seidel (Wayne) of Two Harbors, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren; 2 great granddaughters; brother Valentino Pattavina (Bernadette); and sisters Geraldine Russo and Florence Chamis (Christos), all of Middletown, Connecticut; and sister-in-law Gaetina Pattavina of Middletown and many dear nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Francis; brothers Emanuel Pattavina and Sebastian Pattavina; sisters Sophia Schoenborn and Josephine Paolillo; brothers-in-law Joseph Schoenborn, Salvatore Russo, Dominick Paolillo, Charles Gibson and George Gibson; and sisters-in-law Anna Pattavina, Betty Gibson, Katherine Gibson and Jane Gibson.
