James Charles Bates

October 21st 1939 - July 3rd 2016

James C Bates passed away on the morning Sunday July 3rd 2016 after his battle with cancer. He was born in New York City to James Chester Bates and Helen Herrmann Bates on October 21st 1939. Growing up he had a close relationship with his brother Ronald J Bates and his cousin Stanley Bates. He was a 1957 graduate of West Hempstead High School in NY and a US Army Reserve Veteran. He had a successful 35 year career as an underwriter with Royal Insurance. He mentored many by leading by example and teaching others by his experiences over the years. Jim met his loving wife of 44 years , Alice Dickenson Bates while working at the Royal's NYC office. He had one son James W Bates and 2 grandchildren Alexandra and Samantha. He was a great father and "Pappy" and will be missed dearly.

Jim Bates was a practical, caring and loving man that let his actions express what words could not do. Jim Bates will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him. He was truly one of the greatest men in that he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and worked though life's difficulties. Jim enjoyed time with his family and caring for his dogs. He is survived by his devoted wife, son, brother and 2 grand daughters.
