

Born on May 1, 1936, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Doris C. Foit, James lived a life marked by curiosity, dedication, and quiet accomplishment. He devoted much of his professional life to education, serving as a professor at St. Petersburg College and previously at The Ohio State University’s Central Ohio Technical College campus. Through his teaching, he influenced countless students, sharing not only knowledge but also a deep appreciation for learning.
James was an avid reader with a particular passion for history, especially the Civil War era, a subject he explored with both enthusiasm and depth. Beyond the classroom, he embraced the skies as a private pilot and proudly served as a member of the Ohio Civil Air Patrol, reflecting his sense of adventure and commitment to service.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mickey Foit, and his daughter, Molly Wilder. Their memories remained close to his heart throughout his life.
James is survived by his loving daughter, Amy Walker (Johnny); his five granddaughters, Heather Schillinger (Michael), Summer Yandek (John), Sarah Heine (Tyler), Noelle Wilder (Michael Lepp), and Caitlin Walker; and his four cherished great-grandchildren, Brodnick Schillinger, Brynn Yandek, Lincoln Heine, and Hazyl Yandek. He took great pride in his family and found immense joy in watching it grow across generations.
Dr. Foit will be remembered for his intellect, his steady presence, and the enduring love he held for his family. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched as an educator, a mentor, and a devoted family man.
