Jay has been in my life as someone I admired and looked up to as long as I can remember.   One early memory I have of him, was when he and his mother, my Nana came to visit us in Florida.   I was just a kid and and I could be sassy as an only child with a single parent.   I remember him being one of the only people in my life to be straight up with me, tell me how it is,  and had high expectations for me to behave properly even when I wasn’t being my best.   Another memory I have of him is when my Nana was in a tragic accident and our family drove straight through the night to get to NY as fast as we could.   We all had to stay in a trailer on the front lawn because the house was burnt down and everyone was completely devastated.  The smell is something that sticks with me still to this day.   I was young, but Jay handed me a shot of peppermint schnapps and told me to drink it.  In that situation it was the Irish thing to do you could say, and the uncle thing to do. He was like a big brother to me in a way, we were a little less than 10 years apart.  He would say, “Why do you call me Uncle Jay, Why do you have to put the uncle in there? Just call me Jay”   And he would never address me by my nickname Crissy, he would only call me Christina.   He was protective of me, watched out for me, and always took the time to travel and be there for me in the most important moments.   He was there to congratulate me when I graduated college.  He was there on my wedding day, ready to walk me down the aisle if need be.  So even though he was in NY and I was in FL, he still had a big impact on my life and helped shape me into who I am and have become.   He taught me to be respectful, caring, and always do the right thing. I am grateful to have helped him in his last years.  Uncle Jay, you will be missed deeply by all the lives you have touched whether short-lived or life-long.  May God Bless you and may you continue shining your light down on us from above. I have been friends with Jay since Medford elementary. He will be missed by many. His smile was infectious and his kindness and friendship was genuine. Those who knew Jay loved him. Vanessa- Jay was so lucky to have you in his life. Condolences to the family for their loss.

I have known Jay for many years. He was my son in law for over 10 years. He and my daughter, Vanessa, had a long time friendship prior to their marriage and the last few years she was there to help him through some difficult times. 
My thoughts go out to the family during this difficult time. RIP Jay. You are finally free from pain.

I grew up with Jay. We were on
a dart team for years as grown ups 
and had many great evenings. As teenagers 
we played handball every day(except Saturday’s), Jay was a fierce competitor and could hit the handball well with either hand.
Saturday was reserved for stickball on blacktop no matter if it was 95 degrees or 50 and raining. It was usually 4-6 of us  and would play 3 or 4  nine inning games.
Jay would sometimes pitch 18 innings and was a great hitter, you couldn’t strike him out!
Jay Reed was one of a kind and had the heart of a Lion. He commuted by train(very early)
to the City (50+miles)  for 25 years and was a consistent and hard worker. He was loved by many including myself but memories of him will last forever. Heaven has gained an Angel that will stand out amongst them, he’s the one playing loud Rock & Roll

Although the years escape us & we march to the beat of an unwritten drum, this sacred path we walk enables the passings of many a  heart.  The impressions that remain from when we took those first footholds during the early years of life at five young years of age & embark on the journey from our homes into the hallways of school.  
I can remember this moment as if it were only a few short years prior, rather more than 50!  
Kindergarten. One of my first friends made.  We were puppies barking & crawling on the floor around the room.  The interaction as four-legged friends before two. 
I can only envision your face with a smile.  Even throughout the years.  Your crazy blonde hair that lay relaxed to your face.  Typical little boy, teasing & giggling even as you grew into a young man.  
Although my memories are only from so very far ago, it is you as the human that you were, kind, caring, jokester, that I remember.  
My friend from long ago, farewell as your final journey brings you to the next chapter that I'm sure we'll meet again!  
Keep that smile in your heart & allow your light to continue to shine as a beacon for all who knew & loved you!

Jay you will be missed. We had some wonderful memories together and we  always seem to have a good time.  You had such a caring and kind heart and I will miss you.   I will treasure all the memories and pictures of you and I.  Love you Jay until we meet again .
