Born April 24, 1945 in Louisville, Kentucky to James and Jane Yearout who along with her sister, Janet, preceded her in death. She is survived by her brother, James Yearout, and her 5 adult children, Jeanne Holmquist, Al Basore, Beth Behrendt, Tori Charles and BillieJean Sachs, 5 grandchildren Tim, Alex, Emily, Ashley and Paul all who live in the Clearwater area.
Jeanne attended St. Helen's Primary School and graduated from Angela Merici High School in Louisville, Kentucky. She played trumpet and was drum major. After high school her family moved to Clearwater, Florida where she met her husband and father of her 5 children, Bill Basore, whose family lived across the street.
As a young adult she worked for Bilgores Groves as a gift wrapper. When her children entered school, she worked as a substitute Physical Education teacher and volunteer at North Ward Elementary School where she was President of the PTA. Her proud accomplishments as PTA president were having grass planted in front of the school and restarting the tradition of a May Pole Dance each spring. When her children were in high school, Jeanne worked for Clearwater Beach Taxi and Morton Plant Hospital as a Day Surgery Driver. She enjoyed driving patients that did not have their own transportation. Jeanne retired in 1998.
Jeanne took on whatever challenge came along. She took in stray animals and people alike. If you needed a home for awhile, she gave you one. If you needed a family, she had one she would share. She loved Christmas and the last few years the Christmas tree that is now over 40 years old stands in the living room lit year round. She loved to share the holidays with family and she always wanted her house to be the last stop on Christmas. She didn’t care how you started the day but she wanted you to finish it off with her. She always had prepared food for an army and no one left hungry or without a gift. She always had something for the unexpected guest. Her favorite pets were Reebok the cat and Radar a 100 lb. yellow lab that loved everyone but there were many more that greeted her as she entered heaven.
Some of her favorite memories were working at Bilgores and having the summer off to spend at the beach shelling. She enjoyed taking the children to visit their grandparents who still lived across the street.
After retirement Jeanne’s mother resided with her. The pair loved cruising the Caribbean visiting Tortola and Grand Cayman Island. A born traveler her favorite places in Kentucky were Mammoth Cave and Bardstown. She enjoyed sharing these visits with her children and grandchildren. When returning to Louisville, Louisville Slugger, Churchill Downs, and of course a drive through the old neighborhood and always a visit to St. Louis and Calvary Cemetery where grandparents and great grandparents were buried. It was part of going home.
Jeanne enjoyed collecting cookbooks of all shapes and sizes. She enjoyed reading old westerns, Louis L’amour being her favorite. She enjoyed old western movies starring John Wayne and Gene Autry. She was known for driving with her radio up a bit too loud listening to the likes of Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash and the old crooners Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Dean Martin.
Since Jeanne’s mother passed, she enjoyed visiting her grandchildren best of all. Her ‘angels’ as she called them whether their halos were on straight or askew could do no wrong.
And at the end, it was her children that took care of Jeanne as she requested along with the help of some very dear people that took care of Jeanne as though she were their own mother.
Her last day was spent as she wished with her children and grandchildren in her home. As she was called home, her grandchildren sang her into heaven.
