Margaret C. Lindroth, 103, former Battle Creek, MI resident, Margaret C. Lindroth, nee Blumenstock, 103, died November 5, 2020 at Harbourwood Care Center in Clearwater, FL. At her request, no services will be held.
Mrs. Lindroth was born August 31, 1917, in Battle Creek, MI, to Frederick Carl Blumenstock and Lillian Viva Hubble /Hubbell. From an early age she had an indomitable and independent spirit. Growing up on farms, she helped her father with harvesting the crops and her mother with canning. Her first and only significant job, besides being a loving wife, was at the Kellogg Co. where she refused to be promoted to a desk job from the factory floor as it would have taken her away from her exercise. She took pride in packing the small, individual cereal boxes and that was enough for her for over 30 years. It was at Kellogg Co. where she met her husband, Folke Hjalmar Lindroth, aka “Lindy.” Lindy was born in Karlstad, Sweden and came to this country aboard the RMS Lusitania before it sank and rode the orphan trains out west where he was adopted. He “chased a skirt,” as Margaret once said, to MI, but then met and fell in love with Margaret. They were married on March 20, 1937 in Elkhart, Indiana. Lindy was part-owner of the Smith-Lindroth Insurance Inc. in Battle Creek, which he started in 1939. When he retired in 1969, he and Margaret moved to Clearwater, FL.
Margaret supported her husband in several fraternal organizations including in Battle Creek, MI: the Royal Arch Masons Chapter No. 19, Battle Creek Commandry No. 33, Zabud Council No. 9, Masonic Order Metcalf Lodge No. 419, the Scottish Rite of Grand Rapids and The Gen. George A. Custer American Legion Post. In FL, the Largo Shrine Club, the Egypt Temple of Tampa and the B.A.M.M. of Bay Aristocrat. Margaret was also a 50-year, lifetime member of the Bedford #471 Order of the Eastern Star.
Margaret and Lindy continued their youthful vigor by ballroom dancing. She also kept her youthful figure by eating a combination of cereals most mornings as one of her secrets to her longevity; the others included staying positive about the future, having many friends surround and support her and keeping her mind alert through doing crossword puzzles and reading romance novels. She loved to play penny bingo where she lived and would delight in telling the story of winning a dollar and some change. She lived life her way and continued to wear her wedding rings to the end in a show of devotion to her husband.
Left to cherish her memories are niece, Corinne K. Lee; nephew, Brent J. Blumenstock and wife, Lori; grandniece, Toni McCreash and husband, Greg and their children, Morgandy and Hayden; grandnephew, Ted Lee and wife, Nancy and their children, Dustin and Megan; grandnephew, Fred Blumenstock and wife, Jill; grandnephew, Daniel Blumenstock and grandniece, Val Blumenstock and husband, Mike and many, many friends, especially Pat Seagraves.
Preceding Margaret in death were her parents, her husband, Lindy, in 1982 and her siblings, John Henry Blumenstock, Duane Robert Blumenstock, baby brother, Frederick Blumenstock, Jr. and half-brother, Frank F. Hanning. Since Margaret loved her husband so much, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, as was the case when Lindy passed.
She was the last of the “Greatest Generation’ in our family and will be sorely missed.
