MAYER, Margaret (Marge) of Clearwater, Florida passed away on January 28, 2021 at the age of 92. She was born in the small town of Lilly, Pennsylvania. Her father was a coal miner, and she and her four sisters grew up during the Depression, so she learned how to make the best of things at an early age. She moved to New York City where she became a career girl and married Richard Mayer, whom she met when they both worked part-time at Hammacher and Schlemmer. They moved to Long Island and raised four children. At the age of 50, Marge moved down to Clearwater, got an Associate’s Degree and began a new career in the Probate Department of Pinellas County. She loved work and loved people. She volunteered on committees and was a reporter for the On Top of the World Newspaper. She was particularly known for her humor column, which residents looked forward to reading with each edition of the paper. She joined many clubs, went to many activities, including bingo, which she loved. She was a world traveler, visiting countries all over the globe, from the Arctic Circle, to the Great Wall of China, to Kathmandu, Nepal, and all over Europe, and North and South America, along with many cruises. Traveling was her passion. She was a devout Catholic and was a member of Light of Christ Church, until the pandemic kept her from attending services. She is survived by her four loving children and their spouses/partners: Thomas Mayer and wife Kate Mayer of Farmingdale, New York, Carole Mayer and wife Deborah Goldstein of New York City, Janet Mayer of New York City, and Laura Mayer and partner Patrice Argenzio of Barnegat, New Jersey.
