Mary Alyce Sturgeon

Mary Alyce (Burns) Sturgeon was born on April 30th, 1935 in Grove City, Pa. She was one of five children of Donald C. and Mary M. Burns. Mary met Robert (Bob) Sturgeon on a blind date, and they were married for 55 years. (Her parents, siblings, and husband preceded her in death.)

Together they raised three children Robert Bryan (Kathleen), Lori Ann (Chris) Barsi, and Sean Lindsay. She has 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Mary Alyce or Skippy as her brother Bill fondly called her as a child, became a name which stuck with her throughout her adult life. She graduated from East Lawrence H.S in 1953. While living in New Wilmington Mary worked in the Activities Dept. at the Overlook Medical Clinic. She was President of the Wilmington Area Elementary P.T.A.. She was one of the founders and first President of the New Wilmington Community Club which grew to 120 + members. She and Bob moved to Florida in1984. Mary worked in Florida as a receptionist for Progressive Management for 24 years retiring at the age of 74. Mary was very active in her church in Florida serving as Church Council President for six years. Mary's love of women gathering together for fun and fellowship were the catalyst in her starting the Women's Breakfast Club. Mary's love of the Lord spilled out in her speech, letters, and the Jesus Calling devotional she would send to anyone she heard might have a need. This included those in prison. We know that our mom would want us to end this with: Do you know Jesus? He loves you and He died for you. Please ask somebody about Him. He cares for you.
