
Nicholas E. Fillios, aged 93 years, passed away peacefully at home in Clearwater Florida on July 11, 2023. Nicholas was born in Giannohori, Greece in 1930. When his father, Elias Fillios was killed by a landmine, Nick became responsible for his mother (+Eudoxia) and younger brother (+Hercules). Nick brought his family to the U.S. in 1951, enrolled his brother in school and began his lifelong journey of supporting his family. He retired from the Dolly Madison Bakery Company after a long career as a shipping foreman.
In 1955 Nick married Ifigenia (Jenny) Sideris at the Reading Road Church in Cincinnati. During 68 years of marriage, Nick and Jenny raised two daughters, Theodora (Kosta) Solomos and Evelyn (Philip) Stalas. He leaves behind five grandchildren, Eleni Solomos (John) Dougherty, Dr. Andreas Solomos, Dr. Marina Solomos, Dr. Theodore Stalas, Dr. Jenny Stalas and three great-grandchildren, Valentina Solomos, Evangelos Dougherty and Emmanuel Dougherty.
Nicholas served on the Holy Trinity St. Nicholas Parish council for many years and was the parish president from 1970-71 at which time the sale of the Reading Road location was facilitated and ground was broken at 7000 Winton Road, Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1994, Nick was awarded the St. Paul medal by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese. Nick was an active Ahepan and served as president of the Liberty Chapter 127 in 1975 and organized the National AHEPA Convention in Cincinnati. May his memory be eternal.
