Thinking of you Grandma and missing your voice.

My friendship with Ola was God ordained.  It was in the house of the Lord at the conclusion of a bible study that a member of the class made mention of a lady who needed transportation a few days a week to visit her son who was very ill.  God blessed me to be among several people to answer the call to volunteer.  As a result, I got to meet and become fast friends (I dare say eternal friends – she and I will meet again in heaven) with dear Ola.  I was also blessed to meet her beloved son Charles before he passed.  In the home Charles shared with his wife Genie, I saw the light in Charles brighten even more when his mother came to visit.  The light of the Lord that shined in Ola, shined in Charles.  I saw her heart break as her beloved younger son Ron helped support dear Ola as they walked behind Charles' casket at the conclusion of his funeral service in December of last year.  And I witnessed her strength and faith as she picked up the pieces and carried on with her life in Maryland.

Dear Ola LOVED to regal her friends and neighbors with stories of her life. She had a phenomenal memory and a great love of people and conversation.  Not only could dear Ola recount incidences from her life as a child up thru adulthood spanning over 90 years, she was able to recall actual conversations.  The way dear Ola told it, she apparently even had recall of what she had been thinking at the time those conversations occurred.  Every story was laced with humor and godly insight.  The life she led in rural Kentucky was filled with long, long hours of incredibly hard work, family loyalty and love; and it spoke of a way of life that helped shaped this great lady of God.  Friends of dear Ola knew that to plan on a quick visit with her might mean 15 or 20 minutes in your mind but in dear Ola's world, 1 hour was considered a short visit – sort of like you were just popping in.  But, a stay of at least 2 hours -- now that would pass as a proper visit!!  Dear Ola seemed happiest when a friend came by and she was able to serve her favorite meal, tossed chef's salad with Kraft goddess dressing, Totino's pepperoni pizza and tall cold Pepsi!  Depending on the size of the salad placed in front of you, that's how long you knew Ola expected you to stay ?  (LOL!!!)

Dear Ola was fond of saying, “Wait on the Lord.”  That was her mantra.  She held all missionaries in very high esteem and provided financial support for goodness only knows how many of them.  Dear Ola loved her friends in the Lord and always, only had good things to say about each of them.  On one particular day, dear Ola thought I was being particularly helpful and she said to me, “Why, you're like a pocket on a shirt – just handy”.   She certainly had a way with words.  Her character has positively influenced me as I am sure it has countless others.  What a powerful witness and how blessed we are to have known her– Amen.

I miss and love you so very much Grandma. You were so special to so many people. Many many people were touched by your kindness and love. Zella your great grand daughter loved you and misses you too. We are so grateful you were lent to us for as long as you were. I know you are looking down on us as our new guardian angel. You are loved, will be remembered through my many stories I'm blessed to have and share. You will NEVER be forgotten. 
Amy Elizabeth Venters and Zella G Harris I am still processing your passing and I'll never hear your voice again. I know where you are and this brings us peace. We love you.

We have lost a dear, sweet friend of over 70 years.  She was loved, and will be missed.
