

Richard Corrigan, eldest son of the late Edward R. Corrigan and the late Margaret E. Corrigan (McMahon) of Boonton Twp., NJ, passed away on March 4, 2021 after a long bout with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and heart failure. He was born in Morristown, NJ on Nov. 12, 1944. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Pamela Corrigan (Schultz), his three daughters, Cheryl Barlow, Karen Thorpe, both of Atlanta and Susan Pitt of Minnesota, their husbands, Eric, Peter and Michael, as well as 10 beloved grandchildren. His siblings include Ann, James, Thomas, Robert, Edward Kevin (deceased) and Mark. He attended Morris Catholic High School in Denville, NJ, Manhattan College in Riverdale, New York, receiving a B.A. in History in 1966 and the University in Maryland where he obtained a M.A. in Political Science.
After leaving Maryland in 1968, he joined the US Air Force and served as an Electronic Warfare Officer/Navigator including a tour in Vietnam, where he received a Distinguished Flying Cross and 5 Air Medals. Upon resigning his commission as Captain in 1973, he joined the Chase Manhattan Bank’s International Department for a 17-year career, including a 10-year assignment in Malaysia and Singapore where he specialized in commercial lending, trade and project finance.
Upon returning to the U.S. in 1990, he was seconded to the Resolution Trust Corporation where he managed the dissolution and asset disposition of over 200 subsidiaries of failed Savings and Loans in the Southeast U.S. Completing that assignment, he joined the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) as a workout officer and rose to the position of Director Asset Management and Risk Management. Upon retirement from that government agency in 2007, he was asked to assist the US Department of Energy in setting up the Loan Guarantee Program approved to support for new renewable technologies, advanced fossil fuel power generation and nuclear power facilities. Over the next four years, he was instrumental in advancing the program which supported numerous solar and wind projects and the construction of the last nuclear power plant built in the U.S. He retired as Program Manager for IBM, which supported the Loan Program with over 100 contractors and independent industry experts.
Upon retirement in 2011, Mr. Corrigan established his permanent residence in East Lake Woodlands, in Pinellas County, FL where he was active in community programs as well as remaining active in the international and renewable energy sectors. He also maintained a second home in Big Canoe, GA which served as a summer base of activities for his daughters’ families enjoying the lakes and hiking of the Georgia Mountains as well as hearing tall tales as written by “Grandpa”.
Mr. Corrigan’s approach to life was “Everyone has something to contribute. Observe and then help them make the contribution of which they are capable”.
His life will be celebrated at a Catholic Mass and a private family funeral with military honors. Please send donations to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
