

With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the passing of Richard Phillip Green, affectionately known as “Papa and Grandfather,” on February 22, 2025 at the age of 86. Richard’s life was a testament to devotion, love, and adventure, especially in his 58 years of marriage to the love of his life, Janice F. Green. They were set to celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary this May, a milestone that speaks to the strength of their bond and the life they built together.
Born on August 1st, 1938, in Detroit, Michigan. Richard was a man of many passions, but none greater than his love for his family. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, always putting his loved ones first. His relationship with Janice was a partnership defined by laughter, mutual respect, and a deep, unwavering affection. Their wedding song, “It Had to Be You” by Frank Sinatra, was a perfect reflection of their lifelong journey together.
Richard’s family was his world. He is survived by his loving wife, Janice Green; their daughter, Jennifer Dockendorff; son, Richard Green; grandchildren, Hannah Dockendorff, Mina Witte, Duncan Green, and Vincent Green; great-grandchildren, Ryker Witte and Ellaria Witte; and his beloved brother, Donn Green. Richard cherished every moment spent with his family, especially during their treasured trips to Disney World and countless road trips. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and family-first values.
Richard proudly served his country as a member of the 101st Screaming Eagle and 82nd Airborne as a Radio Operator in the U.S. Navy and then as a member of the Naval Investigative Services demonstrating courage and commitment throughout his military service. Richard is an honored Veteran of the Korean & Vietnam war.
Richard was an avid fisherman, often found by the water enjoying his quiet moments. He also loved to play guitar, cook delicious meals for his family, and travel, always eager to explore new places while making memories with those he loved most. Richard’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May his legacy bring comfort to all who cherished him.
A memorial service to celebrate Richard’s life will be held on March 26th, 2pm at Espiritu Santo Church in Safety Harbor, Florida.
Burial of Ashes will be held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN date to be determined.
