Robert “Bob” Joseph Bonomo passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 9th at 4:35p.m. at the age of 76, in his home in Clearwater, Florida surrounded by his family and the tremendous amount of love they had for him. Robert was born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on July 14, 1945 to Joseph James Bonomo and Josephine Marie (Cinquemani) Bonomo and resided in Bayonne, New Jersey at the time of his birth.
Bob is survived by his loving wife and soulmate, Debra “Debbie” Ann (Portesy) of Clearwater, his daughters, Bernadette, Danielle (Nielson) and her husband John Nielson, and his son, Robert Joseph and his wife Nicole. He also leaves behind his grandchildren whom he adored, Joseph and Marina (Nielson), Joseph’s soon to be wife, Julia, and his grandsons, Robert and Michael. And his furbaby, Lovie’s Abigail of Puff or Abby.
Bob was a man of many talents and was a mechanical genius. He graduated from Lincoln Technical Institute in New Jersey with degrees in aerodynamics and air conditioning and refrigeration. He began his first air conditioning and refrigeration business before he was even 18 years old. Bob then went on to work as a head mechanic for General Motors and Harley Davidson. In 1981, he opened Precision Cycle Shed, a motorcycle repair and machine shop in Bayonne, New Jersey specializing in Harley Davidson motorcycles. After he retired from mechanics, he opened Do All Construction and worked as a residential contractor. In 2004 he and his wife moved to Clearwater, Florida and opened Bonomo Realty, LLC.
Bob loved his family deeply as they were the center of his world. He was an amazing husband and believed that he and his wife, Debbie, were truly a team that could conquer the world together. He was idolized as a father and grandfather. He taught his children and grandchildren the important lessons in life such as to be firm but kind, to be a leader and never a follower, to know your mind and not be afraid to speak it, to be persistent and relentless in pursuit of your dreams, to never give up no matter how hard things got. He led his family by example and possessed strong morals and values. He believed in loyalty, honesty, integrity, accountability, honor and respect and passed those values onto his children and grandchildren.
Bob had a personality larger than life and could light up a room with his 1,000-watt smile and boisterous laugh. He loved to make people smile and laugh with his quick wit and sarcasm. Bob had a hard exterior but a very soft heart. He was passionate and animated in all he did and was a perfectionist. He was a man of his word and a loyal friend. He was always there for others and was the first one to respond when anyone needed help. If you were lucky enough to call him a friend, you had a friend for life.
To really know Bob was to love him, and he was loved enormously.
