AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Robert L. Furney Sr.

7 août 1948 – 26 février 2021
Avis de décès de Robert L. Furney Sr.
AUX SOINS DE

Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park & Funeral Home

Bob Furney, 72, of Dunedin, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 26th, 2021. He was born in Joliet, Illinois on August 7th, 1948. He was the youngest child of the late Lester C. and Lucy L. Furney. In 1956, he moved with his family to Clearwater, Florida. He graduated from the University of South Florida and then taught history at Clearwater High School. It was there he met the love of his life, Suzann, a business education teacher, while selling tickets to a Football Game. They would marry in June of 1975, and have a son, Rob, in May of 1979.

Bob fought many health issues during his life, resulting in early retirement. He received a double-lung transplant in July of 1992 and would become the longest living lung transplant recipient to date. In 2003, as a result of complications stemming from the transplant medications, Bob had a kidney transplant. His brother-in-law, John Byrd, donated one of his kidneys to Bob. He was a long time member of Calvary Baptist Church where he was very active in the Television ministry. He later would transfer his membership to North Dunedin Baptist Church where he would worship faithfully for many years.

He lived his life as an excellent role model and Godly man. He never met a stranger and made a profound impact on everyone he met, right to the very end. After a recent long battle with multiple health issues, he was able to pass peacefully at his home in Dunedin, FL, under hospice care assisted by his wife, his son, and close friend Van George. His sense of humor, his bravery, his tenacity for life, and his will to live were such an inspiration to many people. While we rejoice that he is at peace and home with friends and family that preceded him in death, he is greatly missed and leaves a huge void that can never be filled.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Suzann, and his son, Rob (of Hickory, NC). He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Lester and Karla Furney (Safety Harbor, FL), his sister and brother-in-law, Margaret and John Byrd (Richmond, VA), and many cousins, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, Bob requested that donations be made to North Dunedin Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
