With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mom, grandma, and great grandma Virginia (Ginny) Portman Wintz, who passed peacefully at Suncoast Hospice entering Heaven's gate on September 17, 2025 at the age of 89 in Palm Harbor, Florida.
She was born August 13, 1936, in Pittsburgh, PA and moved to Orlando, Florida in 1976. She is pre-deceased by her husband Clarence A Wintz, her son Paul Joseph McShane, his wife Martha, son Gary Andrew Wintz, and her brother Charles Portman. She is survived by her sisters Mary Lou Ward Wheeling, WV, Patricia Cain Pittsburgh, PA, Jim Portman(Carol) San Diego, CA, her son Michael McShane (Barbara), Allentown, PA, daughters Karen McShane (Robert McGuire) Alstead, NH, and Mary Beth McShane Fagan (Michael) Palm Harbor, FL, nine grandchildren Molly McShane, Madi Coble (Brian), Devon McShane, Abigael McShane, Maureen McShane, Killian McShane, Shane Fagan (Savannah), Courtney Fagan, and Elizabeth Fagan.
Virginia entered St. Joseph's convent in Pittsburgh at 18 and became a grade school teacher. Shortly after, she left the convent, married our father David McShane and became a mother of four. She devoted her life to raising our family while becoming a nurse and caring for the elderly. In 1981, she moved to Orlando, FL where she married Clarence "Speed" Wintz and adopted his young son, Gary.
Her hobbies were sewing, needlepoint, gardening, bowling, cooking, watching Notre Dame, the Steelers, and the Tampa Bay Rays. She gave back in every way possible. So many have been blessed by her care, support, endless love, and devotion, bringing a smile to everyone she met especially those less fortunate. Her faith was the most important thing in her life. Ginny, "the queen" always had a joke on hand making sure you parted with a smile and full heart.
There will be a funeral mass for Virginia at St. Ignatius of Antioch Catholic Church, Tarpon Springs, Florida on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 11am.
