Bill was born January 14, 1934 in Landsdale, Pennsylvania. When he was 10 years old he moved to Clearwater, Florida due to his father’s health. He attended Clearwater high school and not too long afterward, bought a gas station. When he sold the station, he joined the Navy. He was stationed on the U.S.S. Bold which was a mine sweeper. When he returned, he got a job in a boat yard owned by boat builder Clark Mills, where he learned all about diesel engines. His next job was in a power house where he wrote an article for an engineering magazine. General Motors offered him a job in Michigan due to this article and Bill made the move north. During his time in Florida, Bill was married and had 2 daughters, Chris and Karen, 3 grandchildren Maria, Steven and Amie, and 4 great grandchildren Brooke, James, Nathan and Jaidynn.
Bill worked for GM 20 years and his final position was engineering lab supervisor. He was single for 15 years when he met his current wife, Pennye. They would have been married 40 years this coming July. Hobbies that Bill enjoyed were bee keeping, candle making, gardening, canning and wine making. He also was a member of the Adrian Antique Tractor Club in Michigan. In 2018 Bill and Pennye moved to Florida to help Pennye’s mother. One year later, Bill got sick and was in the hospital and rehab and then went on to assisted living. As Bill’s health declined and dementia set in, he moved to long term nursing care.
A graveside service for William will be held Wednesday, June 7, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2860 SUNSET POINT RD, CLEARWATER, FL 33759.
