Unfortunately, I only got to know Barbara for a year in California when we both lived in Stockton until fall of 2014.  She quickly became my "best buddy".  We had so much in common I felt like we had known each other for a very long time.  We  enjoyed our happy hours, loved our bridge games and had great fun just talking.  She is sorely missed and I will treasure the times we had together forever.

Some of our favorite memories were when your mom and dad lived in San Andreas.  We would go up for the weekend and take long walks, eat wonderful cooking and relax in the hot tub.  Barbara would make her Scandanavian holiday lunch that would last for hours.  The week we moved to Oxford to start Rolf's practice, I was struggling to handle it all with two year old Rolf III and six week old Erik.  We called your mom to help us set up the house and practice.  She came right away to help with both.  Her grandsons were always impressed with her workout regimens and ability to manage technology.  She was always light years ahead of any other grandparents they knew.

I loved Barbara's compassion.  Several years ago as her Shallowford Presbyterian Church prepared for the annual county CROP HUNGER WALK, she realized some of her friends from Bermuda Village could not walk well or far.  So she organized a CROP Walk at the Village so people with walkers or even wheel chairs could participate.  And they raised a generous amount of support for people in need locally and around the world!

Barbara was a good friend,  a bridge partner,and a person who could always be counted on. Traveling with her on this journey was difficult but a priviledge.
Memories of love and friendship are treasures I shall will carry with me always.

I feel very fortunate that I had the chance to know Grandma B. She was a loving, kind, and resilient person who always seemed to have a smile on her face. Every visit was complete with good food and good stories, even when I was so young I could barely remember. Even in her later years, she always impressed us with her ability to stay current on the latest electronic gadgets. She also kept up a workout regiment that shamed people half her age! Altogether she lived a full, vibrant life, and we'll miss her now that she's moved on. However, she isn't far away, and just knowing she's looking over us brings a smile to my face.

Grandma B was a great grandma to me.  She was always kind, very intelligent and quick to pick up things on the computer.  She was always interested in what was going on in my life and always made me feel at home when I visited.  Even in her old age she stayed engaged in our lives.  I really enjoyed the time I was able to spend with her and Grandpa B.  They both will be missed and loved.


I will always remember my Aunt Barbara as a vibrant, caring, intellectually curious,  and very elegant woman, who was a food aficionado,  loved roses and especially long walks with her beloved husband Rolf.  

When I was a very young child, I thought that Aunt Barbara was an impossibly elegant person and I loved to sit and watch her put on makeup as we talked.  Her elegance never faded and she was a stunning woman, even as age advanced on her.  I remember thinking when I saw Barbara at my daughter's wedding in 2007 that I hoped I could age as beautifully and gracefully as Aunt Barbara did.

I was also struck at how much Barbara and Rolf enjoyed good food and good restaurants.  When I was just finishing high school, I spent a week at their home in San Francisco and was treated to amazing meals at some of their favorite restaurants an impressive treat for an eighteen-year-old.  Through the years when Barbara and Rolf came to visit in Washington, my husband and I shared many a meal with them, always a dining experience.

Barbara was thoughtful, energetic, always looking for new adventures.  She loved to travel with Rolf, visit museums, see the sights.  She was a very lively person with a keen mind all the time she was with us.

I always called Barbara the original Barbara Blaine because that was her childhood name before it was mine.  I loved that we shared that.  I will miss our long telephone conversations.  And I will miss seeing her.  I loved Aunt Barbara very much.  She was a fantastic aunt.
