
She was born February 10, 1921 in Surry County, the daughter of Joseph and Lela Jenkins Wood. A devoted member of Olivet Moravian Church, she served in the Women’s Fellowship, the Church Outreach and made countless numbers of chicken pies. She was a retired Cafeteria Worker at Vienna Elementary (Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System) with over 20 years of service. She enjoyed her church, bowling and crocheting, especially hats and blankets for the premature babies at Baptist Hospital. Granny was a good Christian woman who never spoke anything negative about anyone. She was truly the “Salt of the Earth”. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 44 years, John “Sant” Sanford Pilcher in 1991 and two sisters, Daisy Royal and Annie Thomas.
Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Pilcher Hicks and husband, Vance of Tobaccoville; a son, John Sanford Pilcher, Jr. of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren, Brian Pilcher and wife, Janie of Mocksville, Chad Pilcher and wife, Holly of East Bend, Tracy Bolen and husband, Darrel of Lewisville and Vance Hicks, Jr. of Tobaccoville; four great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 12 noon November 5th at Frank Vogler and Sons, Reynolda Chapel by the Rev. R. Donald Winters. Burial will follow in Forsyth Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff of Community Home Care and Hospice for all of their love and care of Granny during her time of illness.
