
Conley David Matthews, 71 passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on December 10, 1943 in Winston-Salem. Known to all of his friends and family as “Connie”, he was self-employed and operated Connie’s Towing Service until his health declined in 2010. He served as a Volunteer Fireman with the Old Richmond Volunteer Fire Department for over 45 years and was a lifelong member of Elm Grove United Methodist Church in Pfafftown. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Judith (Judy) Kreeger Matthews of the home, two daughters; Pam Bibey and her husband Alan of Surfside Beach, South Carolina and Tammy Moore and her husband Shane of Rural Hall as well as one grandson and the apple of Paw-Paw’s eye, Carson David Moore; two granddaughters (who nicknamed him “Bubba”); Kasey Bibey of Raleigh and Sarah Bibey of Wilmington and his special four-legged baby, Precious. He was preceded in death by his parents Goldie Farmer Matthews and Henry Lee Matthews, and two brothers; Jackie Gray Matthews and Bobby Lee Matthews both formally of Pfafftown. He was a beloved Uncle to many surviving nieces and nephews. Our family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Hospice for their loving care and devotion. They provided our family with kindness and a sense of peace. Memorials may be made to Hospice/Palliative Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 or Elm Grove United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 164, Pfafftown, NC 27040. The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:30 P.M. Monday, August 17th at Elm Grove United Methodist Church located at 7240 Reynolda Road, Pfafftown, NC. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 18th at Elm Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jeff Hamrick. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park Cemetery. Vogler’s Funeral Home on Reynolda Road is serving the Matthews family.
