

Mrs. Dorothy Bowles McCollum, 83, of Winston-Salem passed away Sunday, July 3, 2011 at Pennybyrn at Maryfield in High Point. She was born in Iredell County to the late Aaron Bernard and Ethel Hege Bowles. Mrs. McCollum graduated from Oceana High School in Oceana, Virginia and received an associate’s degree from James Madison University.
She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker for her family, and worked several years at McGladry and Pullen, CPA as an income tax preparer. She was an avid reader and bridge player, and enjoyed gardening and traveling.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth E. McCollum; her brother Aaron Bernard Bowles; and sister Jean Davis. Surviving is her sister Sue Neal of Norfolk, Virginia; and her daughters Janet (Richard) Sneed of Greensboro, Julie (Dixon) Williams of Pulaski, Virginia, and Mindie (Al) Russell of Advance’ eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
The family will hold a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Resident Care Fund, Pennybyrn at Maryfield, 109 Penny Road, High Point, NC 27260 or to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1901 westchester Drive, High Point, NC 27262.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Hospice of the Piedmont and to the staff of the Hayworth House at Maryfield for their loving care.
