Elizabeth Pearson MacIntosh Hastings "Betty", 95, left this Earth to join her precious Savior Jesus on October 7, 2023. She was born in Reading, Pennsylvania on July 18, 1928 to John and Agnes MacIntosh. She grew up mostly in Charlotte, NC and graduated from Long Creek High School in 1947. While attending Bluefield College in Bluefield, West Virginia she met her future husband, Bernard Hastings. They married September 3, 1949. She and Bernard had 3 children, Belinda Scortichini (Carey), Beth Beaty (David), and Bernie Hastings (Esther). After they were all in school, Betty went back to school and earned her Bachelor's degree from Jacksonville University and later a Masters in Reading from FIU. She taught kindergarten for many years in Statesboro, GA and Pembroke Pines, FL, finally retiring at age 68. In 2006 she left Florida and moved to Clemmons, NC. In 2019 she moved to Trinity Elms Assisted Living. Betty loved Jesus with all her heart. She spent many, many hours in Bible study and prayer. She gave generously to anyone in need. In her time in NC, she spent hours serving others through her church, River Oaks Community Church. She was a faithful teacher in the children's ministry there until her health prevented her from continuing. She was affectionately known as the "Cookie Queen" at church- she baked hundreds of cookies for children and volunteers. Betty was always quick to smile and lend a hand- and quick to pray with anyone. She maintained a sweet and gentle spirit even as her body and mind began to fail. She was so very ready to go be with her wonderful Lord! Betty was preceded in death by both parents, her husband Bernard, and her brothers Johnny MacIntosh, Frankie MacIntosh, James "Bully" MacIntosh, and her sister Catherine Harlan. She is survived by her children and 6 grandchildren, Mike Johnson (Chrissy), Scott Johnson (Sally), Anna Nida (Bryant), Matthew Beaty (Erin), Chris Hastings, and Noah Hastings, as well as 6 great-grandchildren. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Trinity Elms who faithfully loved our mom and cared so well for her, especially to Dottie and Wendy. A celebration of Betty's life will be held at River Oaks Community Church in Clemmons on October 28, 2023 at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to River Oaks Community Church, 1855 Lewisville-Clemmons Rd, Clemmons, NC 27012 or Lutheran Services Carolinas, 1416 S Martin Luther King Jr Ave, Salisbury, NC 28145.
