
Mr. Harry Leroy (Roy) Edwards (85) of East Bend died July 7, 2015 at Yadkin Nursing Center. He was born November 15, 1929 in Phenix City, Alabama to the Late James W. Edwards, Sr. and Estelle Rachels Edwards. After serving in the US Navy during the Korean War, Roy attended Auburn University and graduated in 1957 with a degree in electrical engineering. He relocated to Winston Salem and began his career with the Bell System retiring from AT&T (Lucent) in October, 1989. Roy was an Eagle Scout and lifetime supporter of the Boy Scouts of America. He was associated with Cub Scout Pack and Boy Scout Troop 752 of Lewisville. He attended Lewisville United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, Roy was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dunreath (Dee) Jarratt Edwards; three brothers, Thurman & wife Willa Dean of Smiths, Alabama, James W. Jr. & wife Joyce of Dothan, Alabama and Lonnie Mack (infant) of Phenix City. Survivors include two sons, Kevin (Teresa) and Brian (Allyson) of East Bend; five grandchildren, Kacey (Ryan) Gorman of Pfafftown, Sara (Josh) Kellam of Lewisville, Amber, Brooke, and Jarratt all of East Bend; three great grandchildren, Adaleigh and Kody Gorman and Kaydee Kellam. He also is survived by two nephews David and Alan Edwards and their families in Alabama and Florida.
Funeral services for Mr. Edwards will be Saturday, July 11 at 11:00 am at Frank Vogler & Son’s Funeral Chapel on Reynolda Road. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 10 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lewisville United Methodist Church, 6290 Shallowford Road, Lewisville, NC.
