Captain Harry Leo Hutz, 67, passed away in his Clemmons home surrounded by his wife of 45 years, Jan, his 2 adult children; Jennifer Hutz and Michael Hutz; his darling grand-daughters, Piper Hutz Long and Alexis Hutz; son-in-law Matthew Long and his daughter-in-law, Tiffany Hutz after a 9 month battle with cancer.
Originally from Reading, PA, the only son of the late Margaret and Harry Hutz, Harry was earning his aviation degree at Parks College of St. Louis University when he met the love of his life, Jan. He joined the Air Force and flew KC-135’s for 9 years, before getting his dream job as a pilot for USAir. He flew the DC-9, MD-80, 737, F-100 and Airbus 320 over his 32 ½ year career and flew his final retirement flight on November 10th, 2013 with his family proudly riding as passengers.
Along with flying, his family and his many friends, Harry loved Golden Retrievers (especially his loyal dog Daisy), Skippy peanut butter, The Price is Right, Corvettes and a good bargain; but most of all he loved to travel with Jan.
Known as “Bud” by his Philadelphia family, Harry led a full life with no regrets. His laid back and generous personality meant that he was only a call away for flight advice, to borrow his truck or help with your taxes. The Air Force and the Clemmons community brought him an extended family that he loved with all his heart and he will be missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held at Frank Vogler and Sons Funeral Home Clemmons Chapel on Saturday, June 4th at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Triad Golden Retriever Rescue (tggr.org); Air Force Aid Society, Inc (afas.org) or Cancer Services (cancerservicesonline.org).
