

He was born March 21, 1922 in Davie Co., a son of the late Ottis H. and Lola Dare Howard Smith. He married Dorothy Reid on November 2, 1946 in Forsyth Co. She preceded him in death on September 13, 2007 in Winston-Salem.
He was also preceded in death by one infant son, Reid Nading Smith in 1959, one son-in-law, Eugene Hartley in 2006, three brothers, Elbert, Charles, and Arnold, and two sisters, Norma Mae and Ella Gray.
Surviving are one daughter, Brenda Smith Hartley of Lenoir; two granddaughters, Alicia Marie Hartley and Amberly Hartley Greene both of Lenoir; one great granddaughter, Juliana Dare Greene of Lenoir; three sisters, Elsie Smith Black of Lewisville, Maxine Smith Boger of Advance, Jean (Bill) Smith West of Advance; one brother-in-law, Armand Smith of Mocksville; two sisters-in-law, Ima Jean Smith and Barbara Odom Smith both of Advance; and several nieces and nephews.
He served in the US Army and Air Force in WWII.
He was employed by Sara Lee Corporation as a Supervisor until his retirement in 1986.
Hebert was a charter member of Smith Grove Ruritan Club in Advance with 44 years of perfect attendance. He was a lifetime member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Advance.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Frank Vogler and Sons Clemmons Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:30 until the time of the service at the chapel. Burial will be in Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons.
